Play Based and Research Informed

Teaching and learning in BEEP is guided by the Developmentally Appropriate Practices of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In BEEP, children are active learners, supported by caring adults in a classroom environment that is designed to meet their individual needs while building a community of learners.

Learning in BEEP is joyful, iterative and is “culturally, linguistically and ability appropriate for each child. BEEP curriculum is standards based and grounded in play. Thematic and emergent units foster curiosity and engagement while they guide language, social and executive function skills. Throughout the year teachers observe children in play to assess their needs, skills and areas for continued growth.

Curriculum Taught in BEEP:

The Classroom Environment

BEEP classrooms are organized to support a variety of learning styles through the use of interest centers that encourage planning, working independently and successful completion of activities. These centers include:

  • Library / Quiet Reading
  • Literacy / Writing
  • Blocks
  • Sociodramatic Play (pretend play with peers)
  • Science / Discovery
  • Table Games (math, puzzles, and perceptual materials/games)
  • Art / Easel/Maker Space
  • Sensory / Sand and Water

     

A consistent daily schedule with predictable routines, well organized and clearly defined spaces and classrooms rich in print define the BEEP early learning environment.

BEEP’s School Year Schedule

BEEP follows the Public Schools of Brookline Calendar. BEEP’s school day is Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 2:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am to 1:40 pm. Beep offers preschool Classrooms (2.9 to 3.2 years old) and mixed age pre kindergarten classrooms (3.0 to 4.9 years old).

BEEP’s Daily Schedule

A BEEP classroom is guided by a consistent and predictable daily routine. The daily schedule provides students with large group, small group, and individual activities. The schedule provides a balance of both active and quieter periods as well as a variety of both teacher initiated and child initiated activities. The use of a clear daily schedule gives the children a sense of security and order.

A typical day in BEEP includes the following components:
